Fearing DNA test mother murders illegitimate child in Ariyalur, held

-

TIRUCHY: Ariyalur police on Wednesday secured a woman and her mother for murdering a 30-dayold baby after a DNA test was ordered since the child was born illegally.

U Anbudurai (22) and C Manjula (19) from Meensurutti in Ariyalur were in love for a few years and Manjula became pregnant before entering the wedlock.

When Manjula asked Anbudurai to marry her, he reportedly refused. She informed her parents and they complained to All Women Police in Jayankondam, who registered a case and arrested Anbudurai.

Meanwhile, on March 29, Manjula delivered a baby girl and it was informed to the police. Anbudurai appealed to the court for a DNA test and the court ordered the same. The police who visited Manjula on April 27 (Saturday) noted the identification of both the baby and the mother and asked Manjula to appear for a DNA test on Monday (April 29).

However, on Sunday night, Manjula and her mother Parimala claimed that the baby was missing and lodged a missing complaint with the Meensurutti police and suspected that Anbudurai’s supporters might have kidnapped the baby. The police registered a case and commenced an investigation.

The police found that the baby was not kidnapped and suspected Manjula and picked her up for interrogation. Manjula confessed that out of fear of a DNA test, she had murdered the baby and buried it near her house.

Subsequently, on Wednesday, a police team and revenue officials visited the spot and exhumed the body of the baby in the presence of the Jayankondam Tahsildhar Rahman and sent it to Jayankondam GH for post-mortem.

Later, the police secured both Manjula and her mother Parimala.
