CHENNAI: The residents of Avadi have raised multiple complaints about poor road conditions at the Poonamallee-Avadi Road, where debris have been dumped on one side, making it difficult rather than dangerous for commuters to walk or ride on two-wheelers.
The Avadi residents have complained that the road was earlier in better condition, but currently, different State departments have been engaged in digging sprees.
“The present condition of the road is not just pathetic, but also dangerous and is a safety hazard for people. Importantly the condition of the road is miserable from Paruthipattu onwards,” said an Avadi resident.
Besides, half of the road is occupied by debris dumped on one side, which has taken most of the road space, several commuters have complained about the heavy traffic congestion in the area, due to digging.
“There was a lack of clarity when enquiring about which department is involved in the work. Also, to avoid any kind of untoward incidents, the department has not placed enough barricades too,” added the resident.
But, to bring the attention of the officials, the residents have also complained about the plight of the road with Avadi city municipal corporation a couple of days ago. However, the complainant clarified that no action has been taken so far.
“There are several educational institutions in the area, from schools to colleges. Hence, during peak hours, it’s quite a strenuous task for children to reach on time. It takes nearly an hour to reach the respective destination along the stretch,” pointed out another resident.
The ward councilor or corporation officials did not respond when contacted.
