94.56% clear Class 12 Boards; Tirupur tops

Success rate slightly better than last year; girls outscore boys once again by 4.07% points

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu recorded an overall pass percentage of 94.56, slightly higher than last year’s 94.03 per cent, in the Class 12 Board examinatio­ns 2024, the results of which were published here on Monday. Once again, girls outscored boys with a pass percentage of 96.44 while the boys’ pass percentage stood at 92.37.

Among the districts, Tirupur recorded the highest pass percentage of 97.45 per cent. Among government schools also, Tirupur came the topper with 95.75 pass per cent.

Sivagangai and Erode districts followed Tirupur with a pass percentage of 97.42 and Ariyalur at 97.25 per cent. The capital city of Chennai recorded 94.48 per cent success while the neighbouri­ng districts such as Kancheepur­am recorded 92.28 per cent, Tiruvallur 91.32 per cent and Chengalpat­tu 94.71 per cent.

As per the department data, 7.60 lakh students appeared for this year’s class 12 exam, of which as many as 7.19 lakh students cleared the exam. While 3.93 lakh girls cleared the exam scoring 96.44 per cent, 3.25 lakh boys cleared the exam, recording 92.37 per cent. Girl students recorded 4.07 per cent more success rate than boys this year. Meanwhile, the only trans girl from Chennai who wrote the class 12 board, cleared the exam.

Of 7,532 higher secondary schools in the State, 2,478 higher secondary schools recorded full pass percentage­s. Of this, 397 are government higher secondary schools.

Of the overall students appearing for the exam, 26,352 students secured centum in at least one subject. However, 35 students scored centum in Tamil, seven in English and 2,587 in Mathematic­s.

Of the 5,603 differentl­y-abled students, 5,161 cleared the exam, scoring 92.11 per cent. As far as prison inmates are concerned, of 125 who appeared, 115 passed. That is a whopping 92 per cent.

The management-wise performanc­e indicated that government schools in TN scored 91.02 per cent, aided schools 95.49 per cent and private schools 98.70 per cent.

In the case of schools under different government department­s, Adi Dravidar Welfare schools scored 89.42 per cent, corporatio­n schools 90 per cent, Tribal Welfare schools 95.15 per cent, Kallar department schools 95.47 per cent, Social Welfare department schools 93.68 per cent and schools under TN forest department 86.36 per cent.

Going by group-wise performanc­e, the Science stream topped the list with the highest percentage of 96.35, followed by the Commerce stream at 92.46 per cent, the Arts stream at 85.67 per cent and the Vocational stream at 85.85 per cent.
