EFY Awards 2011 Announced
Electronics For You presented the eighth edition of EFY Awards in Bengaluru last month. The awards recognise the contribution of leading companies and individuals in the Indian electronics industry. These were presented across 26 categories to brands voted by the readers of Electronics For You and Electronics Bazaar magazines. There were also three special categories, winners for which were selected by a jury of six members.
The scope of cooperation under the MOU includes introducing students and faculty to the latest development in the industry, organising joint seminars, creating a platform for the students of the college to undertake project works at the premises of YIL, imparting training to the staff to keep them abreast of the developments in the technical domain area of YIL, and setting up of a centre of excellence for process control equipment with active participation of the company.
INAE workshop on device modeling for microsystems
Recently, the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), in association with the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT), NOIDA, and GSA, conducted MOS-AK/GSA India 2012 workshop. The workshop discussed the frontiers of device modeling for microsystems—with emphasis on simulation-aware models.
“The specific goal of the workshop is to classify the most important directions for future development of microelectronic device models. We also intend this to serve as a platform for launch of MOS-AK/GSA India—a forum which will help galvanise the microelectronics modeling community in India,” shared Prof. A.B. Bhattacharyya of JIIT, chairman of the International Advisory Committee.
Nokia cutting up to 1000 jobs at Finnish plant
Nokia Corp. has completed negotiations with the staff over job cuts at its Salo plant in Finland. The handset maker will slash 1000 out of 1700 jobs at the cellphone manufacturing plant in Western Europe. The jobs will be cut gradually through 2012, with the lion’s share of reductions happening by the end of June. Nokia had announced in February that it would be cutting jobs at smartphone manufacturing plants at Salo, Reynosa, in Mexico and Komarom in Hungary, in order to move device assembly closer to components suppliers in Asia.
