Num­ber of drought af­fected taluks ex­pected to cross 100?

Ben­galuru: Chief Min­is­ter H D Ku­maraswamy hinted that the num­ber of drought-af­fected taluks is ex­pected to cross 100 in the state. Speak­ing at a de­vel­op­ment re­view meet­ing with the DCs, ZP CEOs and sec­re­taries of all the de­part­ments through a video con­fer­ence, Ku­maraswamy di­rected them to get ready to tackle the drought sit­u­a­tion.

“The poor have started to mi­grate to­wards ma­jor cities. The district ad­min­is­tra­tions must stop this by cre­at­ing jobs lo­cally,” he di­rected. “There is no short­age of funds. Al­ready 100 taluks are an­nounced as drought-hit. More taluks will be added in a week,” he in­formed.

He also di­rected the au­thor­i­ties to en­sure that enough jobs will be gen­er­ated lo­cally through var­i­ous cen­trally funded schemes.

Dur­ing the meet­ing, the CM also in­formed that Rs 450 crores have been re­leased for school de­vel­op­ment. “The DCs and ZP CEOs must re­pair all schools and there should not be any com­plaint next year,” he said.
