BJP protest demanding Pension grants
Dharwad: The BJP corporators, along with mayor and deputy mayor, began a day-and-night protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Tuesday, urging the State Government to release pending grants to the Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagara Palike (HDMP), and not to burden it with the operation cost of Indira Canteens.
MLAs Jagadish Shettar, Aravind Bellad and Amrut Desai also took part in the protest, and expressed ire against the government, charging that the HDMP is being neglected.
The HDMP is in severe financial crisis due to nonrelease of Rs 116 crore pending pension grants, and Rs 42 crore SFC performance grants. As the pension grant has not been released by the government, the HDMP has been forced to pay the pension of its employees through the funds meant for developmental works in the twin cities.
Moreover, the government is now putting additional burden on the HDMP by asking it to bear 70% of operation cost of Indira Canteens, they said.
Shivu Hiremath, Ashwini Majagi, Poorna patil, Manjula Akkur, and Other were present.
