Leop­ard at­tack at Nandi Hills? Fake or real?

Ben­galuru: In re­cent times “Fake News”, has not only cre­ated chaos but has also dis­rupted the so­cial fab­ric. The best ex­am­ple for this is the child ab­duc­tor’s fake mes­sage that went viral on What­sapp, due to which a num­ber of in­no­cents were man­han­dled and bru­tally beaten to death. Sim­i­larly, the fake news per­tain­ing to wild an­i­mals en­ter­ing the hu­man habi­tat too has taken the so­cial me­dia by storm.

This time around it was the pic­nic hotspot Nandi Hills in news. A news stat­ing that a leop­ard had at­tacked a biker at the hills was be­ing cir­cu­lated on so­cial net­work­ing sites, which caused a sense of fear. Soon, the bik­ers were re­stricted from en­ter­ing Nandi Hills. When one of the English dailies con­tacted the hor­ti­cul­ture depart­ment ofcer and probed about the in­ci­dent, only to nd out that the news was fake. The ofcer said that there was no such in­ci­dent re­ported and that none were re­stricted from en­ter­ing the Nandi Hills.
