Dis­ney­land project faces an­other le­gal hurdle

Ben­galuru: Am­bi­tious Dis­ney­land project at KRS of Mandya pro­posed by the state gov­ern­ment has now en­coun­tered yet an­other le­gal hurdle. Ac­cord­ing to the doc­u­ments, the project is notied as the pro­tected for­est zone by the union for­est min­istry where con­struc­tion works are banned. Ac­cord­ing to the ac­tivists who have raised the is­sue with the Chief Sec­re­tary, Gov­ern­ment of Kar­nataka TM Vi­jay Bhaskar, the KRS dam is in the pro­tected for­est area as per the records. “The state gov­ern­ment can’t take up any con­struc­tion works in the area as per the or­der,’ they in­formed. The state gov­ern­ment is yet to re­spond for this.

It can be re­called that the state gov­ern­ment is plan­ning to con­struct a Dis­ney­land replica in the KRS dam premises at an es­ti­mated cost of Rs.1,300 crores in the name of tourism pro­mo­tion, which is op­posed by lo­cals, ex­perts, and the farm­ers’ groups.
