Cheap thrills
Catching up on all the Super-Stock action at the fourth round of the MRF national racing championship at MMRT Chennai
SUPER-STOCK MAY be the newest addition to the MRF National Racing Championship, but it may prove to be one of the most closely contested spectatorfriendly series in the championship. The negligible performance difference between the participating cars ensures plenty of thrills, spills and excitement.
Leading the championship is Balavijay, in his sea green Honda City. A veteran in racing circles, Balavijay showcased his abilities consistently by outpacing the rest of the pack.
Eager to cement his championship lead, Balavijay was of the line like a bullet. He led each and every race, continuing his unbeaten run in the 2014 Super-Stock category with another convincing win ahead of Joel Joseph and Sudanand Daniel in race 1. In race 2, Bala jumped into the lead early, fending off several advances by arch rival Joel Joseph.
Joseph, who has spent the entire season playing second fiddle to Balavijay, had probably had enough. In the third race, Joel made several aggressive passes. But, a high speed pass gone wrong sent Joel spiralling off the road. Balavijay went on to win the race, followed by Chandresh N Tolia and M N Sridhar respectively. With two rounds to go, it looks like Balavijay is a shoo-in for the 2014 championship.
