This E350 CDi CosTs ` 10 lakh more than the four­cylin­der E250 CdI and here’s why you should buy one. this six-cylin­der diesel E350 CdI is all about fi­nesse and wal­lop. That wal­lop comes in the form of a re­vised 3.0-litre V6 diesel that now makes 248bhp and a very healthy 620Nm of torque, num­bers that make this E-Class quite the mover. What we like about it, and what we’ve al­ways liked about this diesel is the way it makes its power – no spikes, no sud­den rushes – it just builds speed strongly. The smooth wave of torque it un­leashes un­der ac­cel­er­a­tion, the supremely ef­fort­less pace it main­tains and the non­cha­lant way it gets to big speeds is what makes it feel spe­cial. What’s even bet­ter is that it does all this qui­etly and smoothly – un­der hard ac­cel­er­a­tion, it feels like an ex­pert masseuse is gen­tly but firmly push­ing the small of your back. The only fly in the oint­ment is one that’s al­ways buzzed around the 7-speed au­to­matic. The smooth gear­box sim­ply doesn’t like be­ing rushed and is re­luc­tant to down­shift when asked for in a hurry – it’s the one thing that can an­noy you when you at­tack cor­ners.

That aside, the en­gine’s re­fine­ment only adds to the hushed cabin. The sus­pen­sion works silently, road noise is se­ri­ously sup­pressed and the E350 CDI gives you the im­pres­sion that you’re glid­ing, arm’s length away, from the sweat­ing masses out­side.
