UDI WANTS THE NEW R8 TO play in the big leagues. When the hard top was launched, there was no V8, straight away the V10, and the same strategy was adopted with the Spyder as well.
Power comes from the same 5.2-litre naturally aspirated unit, making 545 wild horses and 540Nm of torque, tamed by Quattro to get you to 100kmph in just 3.6 seconds and achieve a 317kmph top speed.
The chassis of the new R8 Spyder is 50 per cent stiffer, gets 79.6 per cent of aluminium in it and the rest is lightweight carbonfibre. The fabric top can open/shut in 20 seconds at speeds up to 50kmph.
