LaFerrari drops its top

-

FERRARI HAVE revealed images of a LaFerrari without a roof. In this black paint scheme, the sans-roof version of the LaFerrari would look more at home in the Batcave, not rolling out of a factory in Maranello. But come next year, the LaFerrari Spider will begin deliveries. And no, you cannot buy one, every single one that is going to be built has already been spoken for.

Not much has been revealed yet, but what we do know is that the drivetrain will remain the same. That means this car gets a 6.3-litre V12 that makes 789bhp and another 161bhp courtesy an electric motor, and you’ve got a hypercar that can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 3 seconds flat.

The convertible manages to replicate the performance figures of the coupe even with no roof because the chassis has been extensively modified to maintain the same torsional rigidity as the coupe. The aerodynamics have been played around with too, so the drag co-efficient of the car remains the same, even with the roof down.

While Ferrari’s other convertibles like the California and the 488 Spider both get folding hardtops, the LaFerrari Spider will get a removable carbonfibre hardtop or soft top. This slightly spartan feature was necessary to keep weight in check, as well as to avoid the engineering complications that would arise from stuffing a roof as well as a V12 hybrid system behind the driver.

No pricing has been announced yet, but Ferrari have confirmed that they will be unveiling the car at the Paris motor show in October.
