FORCE MOTORS has launched two new models of the Gurkha series, the Xplorer and Xpedition, priced at `9.35 lakh and `8.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Karnataka) respectively. While the Xplorer comes in a new three-door guise, the Xpedition on the other hand, retains the company's five-door design.
Both the Xplorer and the Xpedition are powered by a reworked BS IV compliant 2.6-litre diesel engine, which makes 85bhp at 3200rpm and 230Nm of torque between 1400rpm-2400rpm. The engine is mated to a new five-speed gearbox.
Apart from the mechanical changes, the new Gurkhas sport a redesigned front grille, new front and rear steel bumpers with fog lamps, power steering, a snorkel and all-terain tyres, which come as standard. The other highlight on both models is the suspension. Instead of the old leaf spring setup, the Gurkhas sport independent coil springs up front and multi-link coil springs at the rear.
The Xplorer, being the more serious off-roader gets a four-wheel drive with low range (Xpedition is rear wheel drive) and locking front and rear differentials. In addition to all that, the Xplorer comes with the option of either a hard top or soft top, while the Xpedition gets the option of a seven- or nine-seat configuration.L
