MRF goes upmarket

Perfinza is the only Indian tyre to get Mercedes-Benz’s seal of approval

extensive experience of Indian roads and conditions into making the Perfinza the benchmark for comfort without compromising on dry and wet handling. Tests were conducted not only in India but in Germany and Spain and with Mercedes-Benz being the by-word for luxury cars, the first manufacturer testing was done by their engineers at IDADA in Barcelona culminating in the coveted MO mark gracing the 245/45 18-inch Perfinza tyre for the E-Class. The Perfinza range is available in sizes from 15inch to 18-inch and we have been testing the 17-inch tyre on the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class for the past two months in wet and dry conditions on Indian roads (review in the Tried & Tested section on page 211).

Currently the range is available from MRF’s premium Tiretok and T&S showrooms across India for 60 cars. “Our R&D engineers had one word in mind when they engineered this tyre – perfection”, said Koshy K Varghese, executive VP marketing of MRF at the launch. The Perfinza range starts at under `6000 for the two 15-inch sizes, `8300 for 16-inch, `12,200 for the W-rated and `13,400 for the Y-rated 17-inch size, and `18,200 for the 18-inch MO tyre. The latter is the only Indianmade tyre to get the Mercedes Original seal of approval, a big feather in MRF’s cap. It must be said here that MRF aren’t playing the pricing game and these tyres are only marginally cheaper than the competition. Company officials say their intent is not to be the cheapest luxury car tyre but to deliver the performance of imported tyres with best-in-class comfort and low noise on Indian roads, building demand on the back of strong product attributes.

With motorsport success building a solid reputation for MRF in international markets – they’ve won the APRC title for eight years in a row, the Australian rally championship runs on MRF rubber now and they also supply a considerable number of racing tyres to the UK. MRF are also planning to introduce these tyres in international markets.
