CUT THROAT BEHAVIOUR
Want to terrorise the streets of your city? The 790 Duke is what you’ve been waiting for
THE 790 DUKE IS possibly the most exciting motorcycle to be showcased at EICMA 2017 after the Panigale V4. The fact that it is headed to India makes it even more exciting. Yep, you heard that right – KTM is finally bringing in something bigger than the 390s! In fact, the bikes will be assembled (if not manufactured) at Bajaj’s Chakan facility.
The party piece here is the parallel twin, unlike the single cylinder unit of the 690. It makes 103.25bhp and 86Nm, hooked up to a six-speed gearbox. It shares its 43mm WP USD forks with the 390 and gets a WP monoshock at the rear as well. It also gets plenty of electronics – cornering ABS, traction control that takes lean angle in to account, and a Bosch engine management system. It also gets a quickshifter and launch control.
Nicknamed the ‘Scalpel’, it has a 24-degree rake angle – the sharpest of any Duke yet. It also gets a steering damper, twin 300mm rotors up front and a 240mm one at the rear. This bike weighs just 169 kilos and will be a handful (also mad fun!) when it gets here. Expect it around late 2018/ early 2019.
