Hyundai Santro

Two months of easy puttering around

IT’S FINALLY HERE,” SAID everyone at the evo India HQ and the Santro keys have been going around the office like musical chairs. In the last two months, the pretty little Hyundai has been on the field during every goddamn photoshoot. Being a scooter guy, I love to filter through traffic and thankfully, the Santro is no different. I mean, it’s not so small, obviously but it’s just perfect for city conditions. The gearing too has been optimised for commuting, especially the first and second cog. And if you’re cruising around, third gear is all you need for speeds as low as 20kmph, all the way to 80kmph. I was also surprised to notice that it had enough space to carry four on board along with the auto journo essentials. Read camera equipment, drones, helmets, riding gear and what not. The seats though lack cushioning, resulting in a sore butt on longer drives. But the rear seat is a photographer’s wet dream. Fold the bench and you have enough space to house one talented shutterbug safely. The smooth fuelling also allows for controlled outputs, resulting in brilliant shots you see on these pages. The boot lip helps as well. With so much going for it, I am not surprised when the sales figures break records in the coming months. Buying one for yourself? Do it right away and avoid the queues, as much as possible. ⌧
