Space for everything

Renault’s tagline for the Triber fits it perfectly as we found out over the course of a day with Renault’s newest offering

- WORDS by AFZAL RAWUTHER

MUCH BEFORE ITS LAUNCH, EVERYONE is talking about the Renault Triber. The reason? It is a sub-four metre car that claims to seat seven adults. A bold statement indeed. After all, no other car can claim to even match what the Triber claims to offer. Renault India invited us to Chennai to sample the Triber's interior, its class-leading features and its stylish exterior design. The first drive is scheduled for much later, though, and our driving impressions will have to wait. However, we can certainly comment on everything else about the car that we could experience in our short stint with it.

For starters, the Renault Triber is an attractive looking car. The sub-four metre length hasn't made Renault compromise on the aesthetics. The signature Renault front-end design makes an appearance with the distinctive grille that is supplemented perfectly by the stylishly-designed headlamp cluster. The design seems even more impressive when you move to the sides as the smooth flowing lines meet the tail elegantly. From the outside it is difficult to guess that this car can seat seven adults. And that surprises most people who have just seen it for the first time. You are greeted by a well

designed dash that gets a cooled glove-box, an updated Media NAV Evolution, new digital cluster and a high level of fit and finish all over the cabin. Things get interesting the moment you move to the back of the cabin. The second row has enough space for medium-sized adults. The pillar-mounted AC vents allow a lot more knee room for the middle passenger in the second row and I could squeeze myself into the third row even when the driver's seat and middle row seat were set to my height. Simply put, there is some impressive packaging at play here in the Triber. All eyes will now be on the pricing that Renault can come up with.

SIMPLY PUT, THERE IS SOME IMPRESSIVE PACKAGING AT PLAY HERE IN THE TRIBER
