New Mahindra Thar spied

-

The Mahindra Thar has always been a crowd favourite. The Ed chanced upon a camouflaged test mule of the upcoming new-gen Thar recently and asked our followers about what they wish it has.

Giridharan Kesavan More affordable

Manish Dev Mahanti 200bhp, 500Nm torque, 250mm ground clearance, pre-lift to accommodate some 36ers!

Jayprashanth Mohanram It’s got coil springs at the rear. That’s going to make the ride better for sure. Seats look comfier and the dash looks quite contemporary. There’s a factory hard top, and a roll bar at the rear. Front facing seats as well. Then finally, ABS + Airbags. So overall, should be a lot more usable.

Devesh Kumar Sharma It doesn’t look good. It looks even shorter than the current version. It can’t possibly handle the luggage load five people may have. It should at least be long as Bolero or should have a five-door version. However Jeep Wrangler is too costly in India and its similar design will make the Thar sell.

Karthikeyan Chidambaram Add to that coil springs at the rear, disc brakes all around please. I have taken a pledge that I won’t buy a car that has medieval drum brakes. Don’t come to me with an argument that it’s adequate. It’s just plain cost cutting by the manufacturer nothing else.

Mathew Irene All I can see is that it has lost the DNA. The proportions are all gone. Then it may still sell because after all a Renegade also sells as a Jeep.

Ishan Pratap Singh Solanki Factory fitted snorkel and frontfacing rear foldable seats.

Ram Krishna Factory fitted snorkels on both sides? Simple thing which increases the off road ability and also looks cool.

Robin Ghose Diff locks front and rear. Better front wheel articulation.

V Chauhan Better Quality in terms of fit and finish. Better after sales service and better pricing.

Vinu Gowda An option of a petrol engine with AT + 4x4. As this will be lifestyle vehicle and not a mile muncher. It will bring down ownership cost.

Avi Pratap Singh Put it on a diet please. Bring it down to 1350kg. Diff locks, mounting points and connecting leads for aux lights with a coil sprung front and rear live axles, side mounted spare wheel and drop down tailgate plus an MDI engine would be great.

anindith Locking diff, more power, stronger front suspension, openable top like in the Wrangler and forward-facing rear seats
