K1000 was a cracker!
The K1000 rally saw plenty of action with Team Akshara’s Chetan Shivram coming out on top
THE FOURTH ROUND OF THE INRC, the K1000 Rally took place in Bengaluru from November 22 to 25. The epic weekend saw plenty of action, a fair bit of heartbreak and elation as well, as MRF-backed Chetan Shivram (co-driver Dilip Sharan) won the rally, with teammate Bikku Babu (co-driver Milen George) in second and Amittrajit Ghosh (co-driver Ashwin Naik) finishing third. This weekend also marked Gaurav Gill’s return to rallying after the tragic incident that took place last month.
Gill (co-driver Musa Sherif) showed extreme grit and character coming out on top, after the first day of the rally. He won two stages (SS1 and SS3), and placed third in SS4 and fourth in SS2 to propel himself to the top of the standings with a 50-second lead. Karna Kadur (co-driver Nikhil Pai) was placed second overall, while championship leader Fabid Ahmed drove steadily to end the day in sixth. In the INRC 2 class, Dean Mascarenhas topped the charts while INRC 3 was led by Chetan Shivram.
It was on Day 2 that all the drama unfolded. Gaurav Gill had an untimely end to his weekend when his car refused to start that morning. Meanwhile, Chetan Shivram and Bikku Babu posted great times to climb up from fourth and fifth, on to the top two steps of the podium. Chetan’s victory this weekend also propelled him to the top of the points table for the season. Bikku Babu was hot on Chetan’s tail all through the day, and though he won the last stage of the day, he finished 12 seconds behind Chetan and had to settle for the INRC 2 win and second overall. Meanwhile, Amittrajit Ghosh cleaned up the podium in third place. Chetan also won the INRC 3 class he runs in, and INRC 4 was won by Mujeeb Rahman.L
