THE OPENING ROUND OF THE 23rd JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing championship, held at the Kari Motor Speedway, saw 16-yearold Amir Sayed (MSport) from Kottayam and Chennai’s Ashwin Datta (Dark Don Racing) emerge as the overall leaders in their respective classes. While Amir stamped his dominance in the JK Tyre Novice Cup with a clean sweep, Datta won one race in the premier Formula LGB4 class on day one, and two races on day two.

Starting off with the Formula LGB4 cars, day one was especially tough for Datta, with the proceedings witnessing nervy moments and multiple safety car intervals. Despite all that, Ashwin kept his cool with a third-place finish in race 1 and a win in race 2, although going without a podium place in the third race.

Meanwhile, Chennai whiz kid Amir

Sayed left nothing to chance. Despite it being his first time at the circuit, he mesmerised one and all with his magic behind the wheel, finishing an average of 12 seconds ahead of his opponents.

Moving to the second day, and Datta cashed in on the chances that came his way to seal the top position in the first two LGB4 races, losing out on the third race only after coming in contact with the car of teammate Vishnu Prasad, handing the win on the final race to yet another teammate Raghul Rangasamy.

In the Novice cup races, Amir Sayed maintained his momentum from day one, once again leading a clean sweep of the proceedings with back-to-back wins in all three races, beating back a persistent Dhruvin Gajjar (DTS racing).

The action will now take a month-long break, with the second round of the JK Tyre National Racing Championship scheduled for January 23 and 24, 2021. ⌧
