A new chapter for a legend

Mahindra has debuted the 'Born Electric Vision', which will focus on electric SUVs for the people!

YES, YOU’VE READ THAT RIGHT. MAHINDRA IS stepping into the electric-SUV game. There will soon be battery-powered Mahindra SUVs cruising right next to you on our country’s national highways. The brand has just teased three new electric SUV concepts under what it has dubbed ‘Born Electric Vision’. The design of this new project is spearheaded by Pratap Bose who leads the UK-based Mahindra Advance Design Europe (MADE) division. The range will include a compact-SUV, mid-size SUV and a coupe SUV. All three will be underpinned by a completely new EV platform.

Now, the teaser video that Mahindra has released doesn’t show a whole lot of details. However what we can make out is that all the three SUVs will have distinctive C-shaped LED DRLs at the front and rear. They will feature a butch front end styling with minimal grille area to reduce drag, which helps electric vehicles increase their range.

These new Mahindra electric SUVs will cater to three different segments. The compact-SUV will target the entrylevel buyer and will go against the likes of the Tata Nexon. While the mid-size SUV and the coupe SUV will sit in the higher spectrum of the market. Anand Mahindra, chairperson of the Mahindra group tweeted, “We’re imagining a whole new world. And the first babies to be born in this new world are getting restless…”. Are you as excited as he is? Just hang on a little longer, for all three of these Mahindra electric SUVs will be fully unveiled in July this year.

That begs the question, will Mahindra also produce an electric version of its oh-so-popular Thar? Off-roading in silence, close to mother nature, sounds like the ultimate activity of weekend escapism, doesn’t it? Or perhaps could one of the older brands such as the Marshal, Commander or the Armada be revived in an electric avatar? Only time will tell. Either way we can’t wait to see the end result.
