Winning season
The 2021 Season of the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship was action packed — right up to the finale
VISHNU PRASAD STILL MANAGED TO FINISH ON THE PODIUM
ROUND 4 OF THE JK TYRE FMSCI National Racing Championship took place on February 27, bringing an end to a season of intense racing. While it was a season filled with ups and downs that are commonplace in racing with heavy rains proceeding to play spoilsport in Round 3 of the championship, the sun went on to shine brilliantly over Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, as the 2021 racing season drew to a wrap.
LGB Formula 4
In the LGB Formula 4 category, it was Vishnu Prasad who was leading the championship standings coming into the weekend and in the first of the two races, he took the chequered flag. In Race 1, the championship leader managed to hold his lead over his closest competitor Sandeep Kumar who could not finish. It was T S Diljith who went on to finish the race in second position with Balaprasath finishing on the podium in third.
In the second race however, it was Arya Singh who finished first, with Ashwin Dutta clinching second place. Vishnu Prasad still managed to finish on the podium in third place, allowing the Chennai lad to bag the overall win in the championship and with that, his 14th national title.
Novice Cup
When it came to the Novice Cup category, it was a one-horse race for Ruhaan Alva, who was leading the championship with 80 points. Alva’s closest competitor, Jaden Pariat was lagging behind by 24 points in the championship standings coming into the weekend. Despite the massive gap in the points table however, Jaden performed brilliantly over the last Sunday of the season, winning both races of the category in Round 4. Ecstatic about his performance towards the end of the season, Jaden said, “The start was a tough moment so I just focused. With the winner cup in hand, I look forward to race in F4 now.”
Ruhaan went on to clinch the championship title in Round 4, having amassed 98 points in the standings. On winning his title, the Novice Cup champion said, “It’s been a tough fight with the competition constantly improving. Covid has had a big impact on my preparation but I am happy to compete at the top. My ultimate aim is to get into F1.”
As the sun finally set on Kari Motor Speedway at the end of the race weekend, it was time to bid farewell to another season of racing. And if this is what the competition looked like in 2021, it seems the stakes will only be raised higher in 2022. ⌧
