THE SEOUL E-PRIX SAW MAHINDRA RACING REACH A MILESTONE

THE FIRST EVER SEOUL E-Prix saw Mahindra Racing reach a momentous milestone in its Formula E history, their one hundredth race. With this achievement and the Gen 2 era drawing to a close, the 2022 Formula E championship has come to a close.

The last race saw the heavens pouring down with Oliver Rowland showing great control in wet conditions to secure pole position. With the circuit wet for the race start, he struggled to get away cleanly off the line, lost the lead and dropped to third behind Venturi’s Lucas di Grassi. Later Rowland managed to climb up and finish in second place to take a total of 21 points towards the team’s tally to climb one place in the overall standings, giving Mahindra Racing its first podium result for the season.

“Overtaking is difficult on this track especially at the beginning when we couldn’t use much energy. So, getting Lucas back on the first lap was key to maintaining the second-place result,” Rowland said. “It’s a shame about the start because it could have been a potential win. At one point, I started to apply pressure on Evans but then had a close call with the wall so I decided to be sensible. The team nailed the set-up and strategy.”

Commenting on the last race of the season, team principal Dilbagh Gill said, “I think we were really strong today. To secure the pole position Rowland drove really well in difficult conditions. Although in a way that turned out to be a slight disadvantage as we started on the paint and he got a bit of wheel spin dropping him back to third. He did a great job to reclaim second place.”

With the season concluded, team Mahindra Racing stands at position 8 with 46 points in the championship. In other news, Lucas di Grassi has joined Mahindra Racing for the Gen 3 era. He’ll be racing alongside Oliver Rowland from next year. Season 9 of the Formula E championship is all set to start from January 14, with the first round set in Mexico. Keep in mind, Formula E is coming to India next year, with one race scheduled to happen in Hyderabad. We can’t wait! ⌧
