VREDESTEIN ULTRAC VORTI I TYRES

-

It’s a turning point in the performance car scene now that you can buy a set of India-made rubber for fast cars. The I in the Ultrac Vorti I stands for India. The set of tyres we had on our GLA 35 AMG were from a 110 years old premium European brand ― Vredestein. The niche brand has been gaining traction among performance-oriented consumers. These are luxury and performance car tyres designed in Europe but also meant to suit our road conditions making them more durable. These tyres are made at the Apollo Tyres factory in India and that means support at all Apollo Tyres service centres and more affordable costs. And fortunately there are over 40 sizes available which meant I could find the right fit for the AMG.

Over two weeks and 3,500km of driving, I filled air in the tyres once, didn’t get a single puncture and just the sheer peace of mind while driving on some horrid roads we found on parts of the drive made a switch to the Vredesteins a no-brainer. These tyres would stack up against the best in the industry during the drive. We found the heat of Delhi, the rains of Punjab and even a brief spell of snow at Khardung La, with slushy and gravelly roads thrown in the mix, and all through, the grip levels from the Ultrac Vorti Is ensured I could deliver all the power and torque from the GLA 35 to the road. You notice the TC light go frantic in slippery situations when you are driving performance cars but I rarely ever noticed it kick in. The wider rubber also gives the car a good stance, and when parked, the tread pattern of the Giugiaro designed Vredesteins look great.

Since these are two-ply tyres, the sidewalls are thicker. In colder places such as Kashmir and Ladakh, stones on the road get harder in the cold and can easily cut through tyres. But when you’ve got a two-ply tyre, it can handle these sharp stones and multiple other sharp objects on the road a whole lot better, with the minor inconvenience of a little more weight due to the added rubber.
