That the Katana still looks avant-garde is testament to how far ahead of its time it was, when Suzuki launched the original 40 years ago. The 2022 bike sports the same unmatched styling and edgy theme. It’s a really unique, smashing looking motorcycle, although it does have an abruptly cropped tail that could improve.

If you’ve ridden the ’80s Katana, the biggest change that stands out is how much more compact the 2022 bike is. It’s also more comfy, thanks to an upright riding position.

The 2022 Katana also provides lighter, quick handling manners you can take for granted on most modern day big bikes. Its 999cc, in-line four mill packs a really meaty punch, along with a finely tuned set of electronic riding aids.

You’d do well to consider the Katana if in the market for a snazzy looking urban superbike, with perhaps a short weekend highway ride thrown in. The Katana isn’t ideal for extensive touring, and holding speeds over 160kmph isn’t easy. For although there’s ample performance, wind blast is an issue.

The Katana’s a fair value bike for what it offers. My overriding thoughts on the 2022 bike are, that Suzuki’s excelled to bring the Katana back to life. Having experienced the first bike, this was something I longed for. However, given the unrivalled strength of the Hayabusa brand today, one can’t help but wonder how far the Katana saga could have gone, had Suzuki just kept it alive through the years. I’ve got my fingers crossed Suzuki don’t again hit the pause button this time, and instead build upon such terrific potential.
