Fast five!
The fifth edition of Launch Control was a true haven for petrolheads and enthusiasts alike
DRAG RACES ARE A CORE PART OF LAUNCH CONTROL
DRIVING A FAST CAR ON A racetrack can give you a heady rush that is unparalleled, and it was a weekend full of thrills at the Launch Control event, held at the Buddh International Circuit last month. With over 100 cars participating across the country, Launch Control was an adrenaline-fuelled gathering of fast cars and enthusiasts at what is India’s best racetrack.
This was the fifth edition of Launch Control and the event was split into four main activities. Drag races are a core part of Launch Control, and nearly 75 cars, ranging from AMGs and BMW M cars to Lamborghinis and Ferraris battled it out to set the fastest times. Ultimately, it was a Ferrari SF90 from Bangalore putting out nearly 1000bhp of power that bagged the honours with a time of 9.835 seconds.
In the meantime, tyres were set alight by cars going sideways in the drift arena, where Mudit Grover set a new national record for the longest drift with his tuned Mercedes-Benz C-Class, for 19 minutes and 20 seconds! You can read the full story of the build in the Tuned section of the magazine. A slalom course designed to test cornering and handling was also set up on the handling track, and Ferrari Mumbai put it to good use for demonstrating the Ferrari 296’s capabilities. Simulators by ALLSim were set up to enthuse enthusiasts by the trackside, while over 60 performance cars drove flat-out on the track during the main trackday. A track-spec BMW M2 from Mumbai even went on to set a lap record for the fastest BMW at the BIC, with a 2 minute 4 second lap.
Launch Control has always been an awesome celebration of fast cars, and there’s no doubt that the next edition in the winter will be even more epic. Can’t wait! ⌧
