THE KARIZMA NAMEPLATE HOLDS a special place in my memories, especially when recalling the iconic ad featuring Hrithik Roshan outrunning a chasing jet – a level of creativity rarely seen in today’s advertisements. My cousin’s 2007 Karizma R added another chapter to my connection with this legendary bike. Although I was initially unfamiliar with riding, the tempting sight of his red Karizma led me to cautiously experiment around the house. Eventually, I mastered the basics, turning that red Karizma into a cherished memory.
So, when I was informed about receiving the Karizma XMR as my new long-term bike, excitement surged. However, after a week’s use, it became apparent that the XMR has evolved from its predecessor. The familiar bikini fairing has transformed into a full fairing since the ZMR and the relaxed riding position shifted towards a more aggressive stance. I really like the way it’s designed and the bike definitely grabs eyes. The build quality is also decent but the adjustable windscreen is already broken and it was like that since the day I got the bike. While the rider’s triangle is aggressive, it is not as committed as the R15 and strikes a good balance between outright sportiness and comfort. The suspension is not very stiff and soaks up undulations on the road. However, unlike the OG Karizma, extended rides might lead to fatigue, owing to the riding stance. In line with its striking appearance, the engine also exudes a sporty character. It truly comes alive beyond 7000rpm and this liquid-cooled engine maintains remarkable refinement. I’ve been using the Karizma XMR to roam around Pune, and I’ve been getting close to 26kmpl, but I think it can go up to 30kmpl on the highway. I’m very curious to see how the Karizma performs on the highway. ⌧
