The final round of the National Car Racing Championship saw intense two-day action at Madras International Circuit
MEIYAPPAN WON THE TOURING CARS TITLE AT THE AGE OF 48
IN THE THRILLING conclusion of the Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023, the Madras International Circuit in Chennai witnessed seven races across six categories on December 16 and 17, 2023.
In the Formula 2000 class, Arya Singh from Kolkata won Race 1 to secure his first victory after several near misses. But in races 2 and 3, Bengaluru’s Aditya Swaminathan claimed the lead. However, Sandeep Kumar, who finished second in Race 2 and third in Race 3, won the championship by just three points over Arya Singh.
Viswas Vijayaraj won races 1 and 3 in the Formula 1600 category, displaying exceptional pace and command. Chetan Surineni, on the other hand, won Race 2 and went on to win the F1600 championship with a second-place finish in Race 3.
Ritesh Rai of Chennai had a memorable weekend in the Indian Touring Cars class, winning both races. But it was Gurunath Meiyappan who won the championship, making a sensational comeback after 20 years with a consistent performance throughout the season.
Deepak Ravikumar dominated the Indian Junior Touring Cars category, winning both races and securing the championship.
Diljith TS won Race 2 in the Super Stock category, clinching the championship title for the category. Simultaneously, Diljith’s competitive spirit was on display in the Formula LGB 1300 races, where he clinched the title of Formula LGB 1300 champion despite finishing second and third in races 1 and 2.
And so, like the previous rounds, this weekend featured not only thrilling races but also the culmination of comebacks and emotional victories. ⌧
