Going bold

Tata’s Curvv concept is nearing its launch, we got to see the concept in its final form at the recent Bharat Mobility Show

-

DESIGN-WISE, IT HASN’T CHANGED MUCH FROM THE CONCEPT VERSION

THE HIGHLIGHT FROM THE RECENT Bharat Mobility Show was none other than Tata Motors’ much-awaited Curvv coupe SUV. Although still not in its final production form, all the concept-car elements like the cameras in place of the ORVMs and LED light bar extending to the bonnet have been removed, giving us a good idea of what the car will look like. And yes, the coupe-SUV design language will make it into production!

First revealed in 2022, Tata Motors showcased the Curvv as an EV that will be based on an electric-only platform. Tata Motors’ current design language and the new steering wheel design were also showcased for the first time on that model. It had fullwidth LED bars and triangular housing for the headlamps and taillamps – something that has become the norm on newer models.

Now, however, we have a more detailed overlook. The EV version will be based on the new Acti.ev platform and will come first followed by the ICE version which will offer multiple gearbox and engine options. Going by the dimensions, the Curvv is around 20mm shorter than the Creta but is 20mm wider, thus placing it right in the mix of the mid-size SUV competition.

Design-wise, it hasn’t changed much from the concept version and still sports a muscular front end, but now closer to other models in the line-up. The rear has a full-width LED bar and triangular housing for the brake and reverse lights. The model has 18-inch wheels and disc brakes on all wheels along with camera-based ADAS. It also gets projector headlamps and a 360-degree camera setup in addition to the flush door handles which will be new for the brand. Tata Motors has claimed that the launch will happen sometime later this year. ⌧
