Four-door freak
Porsche’s all-electric sport sedan has received a track-focussed makeover and more power than one might ever need
IT ALSO MANAGED TO BREAK THE LAP RECORD AT LAGUNA SECA
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. The most powerful road car the folks at Zuffenhausen have ever rolled out! Here are its headlining figures — 1093bhp, 1340Nm, 305kmph top whack and 0 to 100kmph in a blisteringly quick 2.1 seconds. Phew. Proper supercar stuff.
But there’s a catch — full power is only available for two seconds during launch control. During normal use, there’s ‘just’ 778bhp on call all the time and 939bhp for 10 seconds in ‘Attack’ mode. The 105kWh battery remains unchanged and promises a 554km claimed range. Earlier this year, pre-production versions of the Taycan Turbo GT set lap records at the Nurburgring Nordschleife for both seriesproduction electric cars and four-door cars with any drivetrain. The time of 7m 07.55s is 26 seconds quicker than what Porsche had previously managed in a Taycan Turbo S. But that’s not all, with a lap time of 1m 27.87s, the Taycan Turbo GT also managed to break the series-production EV lap record at Laguna Seca in California.
The Taycan Turbo GT is setting race tracks on fire because it has received a fair few goodies from Porsche’s GT department. On the outside, it gets a carbon front splitter, side skirts and a more aggressive rear diffuser. Tick the optional ‘Weissach Package’ and Porsche slaps on a fixed carbon rear wing, sticky Pirelli Trofeo R tyres and 21-inch forged alloys. The Weissach package also deletes the rear seats and adds in lightweight glass. All-in-all, the Taycan Turbo GT is 75kg lighter. It also gets a bespoke ‘Purple Sky Metallic’ exterior shade which looks gorgeous. So is this the Taycan to have? Sure, if you don’t have kids!
