Fresh on the block
At its Annual Brand Conference, VW announced changes to its lineup with more special editions and new nomenclature
VOLKSWAGEN MIGHT HAVE ONE OF the smallest portfolios in the Indian car market, but that hasn’t stopped it from coming up with new special editions and keeping enthusiasts enticed. Recently, at its Annual Brand Conference, it revealed significant updates to its product lineup, particularly to the Taigun SUV. The company introduced refreshed trim lines, including the GT Edge, Chrome and Sport lines, and two new editions called the GT Line and GT Plus Sport. In addition to these, there’s also a special concept based on the Virtus GT.
Starting with the Taigun lineup, the midsize SUV has now been divided into three basic categories – Taigun Chrome, Taigun GT Edge and Taigun Sport. The Chrome line consists of the trims that were on offer earlier, namely Comfortline, Highline and Topline. The powertrain and transmission options are the same as before with the 1.5-litre or the 1.0-litre TSI engines. Then comes the GT Edge, exclusively available with the 1.5 TSI engine. The highlight here is that the Edge is available with matte grey and gloss black colour options. The Taigun Trail Edition is also part of the GT Edge trim.
The big additions are to the Sport trim line. Volkswagen has introduced the new GT Plus Sport and GT Line variants. The GT Plus Sport features the 1.5-litre TSI engine with 7-speed DSG and 6-speed manual transmission options. It comes with black exterior trim fitments like black roof rails, glossy black B and C-pillar garnishes, black ORVMs, smoked LED headlamps and 17-inch black alloy wheels. The interior too is spiced up with a blacked-out interior with red accents. The GT Line variant, on the other hand, is powered by the 1.0-litre
TSI engine, with both 6-speed AT and manual transmission options. Like the GT Plus Sport, it features black exterior enhancements and a black-themed interior but with grey accents. Ambient lighting continues to be red in the GT Line trim as well.
The Virtus GT Plus Sport concept was also part of the new unveils. As the name suggests, it is similar to the Taigun GT Plus Sport and gets blacked-out exterior elements such as the grille and front bumper, both of which used to have chrome elements. The 17-inch rims are
now draped in black, with red brake callipers. Moving to the rear, the diffuser and lip spoiler are both black, along with the Virtus logo. The GT badges on the front and rear bumper are now red, similar to those found on the Taigun GT Plus Sport.
The Virtus and Taigun continue to enthral enthusiasts across the country. With these variant additions, Volkswagen has given the Taigun and Virtus a new lease on life until new products come to the market.
