Taking MSMEs to the Next Level
The Department of MSME & Textiles, Government of West Bengal, organised the MSME State Conclave, Synergy, on 20-21 August 2018, in Kolkata. The theme of the conclave was taking MSMEs to the next level. More than 3,000 MSMEs participated in the conclave and was inaugurated by Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister, Government of West Bengal.
The thematic sessions on Lean Manufacturing, SME Listing (IPO), Rural Entrepreneurship Hub and Export Orientation in MSME were organised at the conclave. The thematic session on Lean Manufacturing was moderated by RK Chhajer, Chairman, FICCI-MSME State Committee, West Bengal & Managing Director, Vikrant Forge Ltd. Chhajer, spoke on the advantage of implementing Lean Manufacturing process, as it reduces cost and increases productivity. There should be an awareness and organised support for implementing this technique in MSMEs.
Prof. Siddhartha Das, IIT, Kharagpur, spoke on Lean Manufacturing, which has evolved over a period of time helping in improving efficiency, effectiveness and profitability of the manufacturing operations. Ajoy Bandopadhyaya, Director, MSME – Development Institute, Kolkata, mentioned the benefits of Lean Manufacturing, which helps in useful utilisation of workers, reduces energy waste, defects in products, transportation waste and wastage of time.
