Central Bureau of Irony

Gfiles - - Letters -

The unsavoury developments involving the CBI Director and its Special Director are reflective of a much deeper malaise — a big rot at the very heart of the premier investigating agency ( gfiles, November 2018). Over the years, disturbing questions have been raised over its functioning, irrespective of the government holding office at the Centre. In recent years, the agency has come in for adverse notice in the 2G and coal scams. And in fact, the Verma-Asthana face-off is not the first time that the CBI’s top brass has come under the scanner for professional impropriety. Former director, Ranjit Sinha, for instance, came under cloud in both the 2G and coal scams. The CBI needs to sets its house in order, but its past record does not inspire confidence.
