Salman Khan: Many would leave their husband for Bharat. Priyanka Chopra left Bharat

Salman Khan opened up on Priyanka Chopra’s impromptu exit from his upcoming film Bharat. The 53- year- old actor said that Priyanka chose marriage over Bharat.

It is no secret that Priyanka Chopra was the first choice to play Salman Khan’s leading lady in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bharat. But her impromptu exit, owing to her wedding with Nick Jonas, didn’t go down too well with Salman Khan. Later, Katrina Kaif stepped into Priyanka’s shoes for Bharat. At a recent event, Salman said “Thank you, Priyanka” right after Katrina was asked about how she got on board for Bharat. When many perceived it to be a dig at Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan in a recent interview clarified his real intention behind his comment. Salman Khan told Mumbai Mirror, “Thank you, Priyanka! I will always be thankful to her. Bharat was about to go on the floors and just five days before the shooting, Priyanka meets me and says that she wouldn’t be able to work in the film. Now, if Priyanka hadn’t left Bharat, how could we have brought Katrina on board?”

The 53- year- old actor said that Priyanka was offered a meaty role in Bharat, instead “she chose to play the role of a wife, which is even beautiful”. “But Katrina is not playing the role of a wife and hence she is playing the character in Bharat,” added Salman.

When asked if he had any conversation with Priyanka lately, Salman said, “No, even after the release of the trailer, Priyanka didn’t call me. Now, if she had some genuine problem then it’s alright. I believe, whatever happens, happens for the good.”

“She came to meet me one day and said she is going to get married and hence won’t be able to work in the film. I had told Priyanka that we will adjust the dates for her. She said that she isn’t sure how much time she needs for the preparation of her wedding,” added the actor.

He further revealed that Priyanka was in no mood to make changes for Bharat, and she came to just deliver the news. However, he found it commendable that Priyanka chose marriage over Bharat. “While many would give anything for the film or maybe even leaving their husband, Priyanka left the film,” said Salman Khan.

Though fans missed the chance of seeing Priyanka and Salman together on the big screen, will they work together again? To which, Salman replied, “I would definitely work with her in the future. If she gets me a meaty role, why wouldn’t I work with her? I just need to love the story.”
