Cleaner today for greener tomorrow

Bhumi Pednekar teams up with former UN Environment Programme chief Erik Solheim to clean up Carter Road beach

-

Bhumi Pednekar has been using her star power to raise awareness about environmental conservation and climate change. Through her social media initiative Climate Warrior, the actor not only voices concerns about the rapidly depleting natural resources, but also highlights the tireless work of the country’s environmental activists. In another attempt to put the focus on a cleaner planet, Pednekar has joined forces with Erik Solheim, former executive president of UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Norway, and president of the Green Belt and Road Institute. The two will host a clean-up drive at the Carter Road beach today. “I’m doing my bit to raise as much awareness on the climate issue as possible. [We’ll] speak about how we all, individually, can make a huge difference and protect our planet that has nurtured us unconditionally,” says the actor. This initiative has been partnered by Bhamla Foundation.

Happy as she is that a section of the population has started adopting environmental-conscious practices, Pednekar is aghast that most people still have a callous attitude towards the issue. “My journey to advocate for climate justice has helped me interact with some amazing people who are putting climate change at the forefront of our conversation. It is a pressing issue, and we are in a crisis, which people aren’t realising.”
