5 fitness lessons you need to learn from Jacqueline Fernandez

-

When Jacqueline Fernandez is not in front of the camera, she is busy mastering her workout routine—which includes yoga, pilates, barre, pole dancing and functional training, all of which allow her to work different muscles and parts of her body for better all-over fitness. Here’s how you can get the same benefits too.

01 Consistency is key

Fernandez believes in sticking to routines that you can commit to, even if it means sticking to the basics. “I work out for an hour a day. I’ve been at it for years now. Balance is key,” she shared in an interview with Vogue India. “I have been dealing with some major anxiety these past few weeks, however being consistent with yoga has taught me the valuable lesson of being in the moment and what’s even more important, gratitude, for life and being alive,” she shared in an Instagram post.

02 Have fun with your workouts

Fernandez likes going beyond her yoga and pilates classes to try fun styles like pole dancing and aerial silks. “Keep it simple, you don’t have to break the bank,” she shares. For Fernandez, pole dancing is a fun workout method that really challenges her. “No matter what you do on the pole, your upper body gets super ripped,” she shared. The moves engage multiple muscles at once and help you build strength. Another major plus? Pole dancing really helps you build confidence too.

03 Create a soothing environment Exercise isn’t just for your body but also the mind. It not only helps relax your muscles but also your mood. But for your feel-good hormones to flood the brain you need to create a conducive environment for it to happen. According to Fernandez, cranking a great playlist will really help. “Make sure you put on some good relaxing music and breathe,” she suggests. 04 Personalize your workouts as per your needs

Along with exercising, working on her dancing skills has been a priority for the actor. “Your workout has to be personalized; what you need and what you enjoy,” shared Fernandez. That is why she practices a barre workout that focuses on building flexibility and coordination while also making it a great mind-body workout. “Jacqueline and I met a few years back when she wanted to improve her flexibility. I taught her ballet privately, and our bond developed from there. She possesses a very athletic Sri Lankan physique and, in my book, can pretty much do anything you ask of her,” shared her trainer Cindy Jourdain.

05 Focus on the journey, not the results

Fernandez makes it clear that working on your fitness is a long game, and that while you may not get instant gratification, you’ll definitely reap the results as you continue working on it. “In this field, you see most people are judgmental and lose efficiency in their workout by allowing their inner critic to take over. I like that Jacqueline enjoys the discovery and doesn’t worry about the process, but instead openly accepts and learns each time,” confirmed Jourdain.
