AAI, UNDP to enhance livelihood opportunities
Airports Authority of India and united nations Development Programme in India have inked a pact on a new partnership to enhance livelihood opportunities and provide better living standards to communities living around airports in India.
Due to unplanned land use and haphazard growth, economic development around airports remains low, creating slum-like settlements in the airport vicinity. The partnership will focus on adopting an ecosystembased approach with human development at the centre and enable the environment for sustainable economic and social development.
UNDP country director Francine Pickup said, “India’s airports have grown rapidly in line with the country’s growth and economic standing. This initiative is important because it seeks to support the social and economic development of the disadvantaged communities around those airports.”
