Fresh off the runways

-

The start of a new season is always an exciting time. There is an abundance of designs to be enjoyed, trends to be interpreted, and debates on what made the cut and what fell through. I know that at the Bazaar offices, this is a period most characterised by a hectic medley of arguments and deliberations flying back and forth between the team on what are the exact things that make the season special. Personally, what this time heralds most for me is an opportunity to take a look at all the innovative ideas that some of the most creative minds in the world of fashion put together. A chance to assess the novel, but more importantly, an opportunity to perhaps take something away from these new ideas, and make it one’s own. In short: revamping one’s personal style. To this effect, we have crafted our Big September Issue as a go-to manual on everything that you need to know and understand about this fall’s fashion. ‘Runway Report’ gives you a comprehensive lowdown on all the trends that are making waves on the runways, while ‘Best Accessories’ is a report on the best in extras. The issue is also loaded with the biggest names in fashion—read our exclusives: ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ with Roberto Cavalli, where we shot the Italian powerhouse in his home and studio in Florence; ‘Milanese Marvels’ is an interview with knitwear queen Angela Missoni and her plans to make a foray into the country; in ‘Designs on Creativity’, Silvia Venturini Fendi talks about how she is working on creating innovative design dialogues. Closer

home, we profile those fashion designers—both up-and-coming, and established—who have carved a niche in Indian fashion with their distinct design sensibilities and aesthetics, in ‘Fashion for the Future’ and ‘Palette of Five’ respectively. In these, get an insider look into what inspires Arjun Saluja, Yogesh Chaudhary, Tania Sharma, Nimish Shah, Ruchika Sachdev, Aneeth Arora, and Rahul Mishra amongst others.

In Beauty, we have something that all Indian women are bound to love. Eyes were the focus on the runways this season, with unconventional colours and hues making a big splash—red eyeshadows, electric blue eyeliners, and purple mascara were only the beginning. We explore this trend with actress Amy Jackson, as she stars in our beauty shoot ‘Eyes Spy’. In a country like ours, where there is such emphasis on the eyes, we felt a shoot like this would be a perfect head’s up for the upcoming season. In keeping with the spirit of everything new and exciting, on our cover is Ileana D’Cruz, who is making her Bollywood debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor, in Barfi this month. The model-turned-actress is the latest transport from the South, and is the one to watch out for in the coming months. See her in our cover shoot, ‘Girl, Uninterrupted’ as she channels some of fall’s most coveted looks. So take a look at the best that this season has to offer. Here’s hoping you discover a

new facet of your style.
