LEAVE ITTO A&T to pick something local and make it globally appealing. For their Fall 2014 show at the Wills Lifestyle India FashionWeek, it was the silks of the Northeast: Eri, muga, and tussar used mostly in their naturally-occurring colours. “We wanted to showcase the versatility of the textiles of that area,” says Rakesh Thakore. Graphic weaves (think oversized triangles in black and khakhi) adorned sari pallus and skirt hems. The ultimate surprise was the leopard print designed to “heighten the safari-like feel of the collection,” says Thakore. In particular, look out for intricately woven saris paired with trench coats and printed top-and-trouser combos that will soon be on everyone’s must-have list.
