What causes a brain fart?

S k Nair, Surat

The exact meaning of ‘brain fart’ is not clear but one interpretation is ‘Freudian slip’- which means speaking something out of context but which is linked to the subconscious content. E.g. “I wanted to repair and sex (fix) it.” Another meaning of ‘brain fart’ is something that is easy to remember but slips out of your mind. At times, you can’t remember names of close people and it creates serious embarrassment. Both are innocent activities and have no clinical significance

or psychological abnormalities and have no specific treatment. What I would advice is not to get anxious as anxiety would make it worse. The forgotten name will be collected when the effort is given up.
