Eat­ing veg­etable ni­trates, found mainly in green leafy veg­eta­bles and beet­root, could pre­vent mac­u­lar de­gen­er­a­tion, a com­mon cause of vi­sion loss in peo­ple over the age of 50, new re­search has found. Spinach has ap­prox­i­mately 20 mg of ni­trate per 100 gms, while beet­root has 15 mg of ni­trate per 100 gms, said the re­searchers.
