My husband has just retired from the military, and has always been very fit. But now when he gets up in the morning, he is unable to keep his feet on the floor – he experiences severe pain and cramps. Please help! Anita Nayak, Mumbai Your husband may be suffering from a condition called plantar fasciitis with associated peripheral nerve compression in the fascia. Usually, wearing of extremely soft footwear, massage of the plantar fascia, stretches for the foot muscles, rolling your foot over a frozen tin can help. If these do not help, then see an orthopaedic surgeon.
