BHOPAL AND NEW DELHI: The Bhopal police on Saturday have arrested a man suspecting him to be infamous thief Davinder Singh alias ‘Bunty chor’, who has allegedly committed hundreds of thefts across the country, and has featured in reality TV show Big Boss.

Bunty chor has been in the news for the past few weeks after his name cropped up during the investigation of two car theft cases in south Delhi.

According to Bhopal Police, the man suspected to be Bunty was staying at Ganga Palace Hotel and was caught from Naveen Press road where he had allegedly come to sell some stolen items.

City superintendent of police (CSP) Manu Vyas confirmed that Bunty had been arrested. “We have caught him on the basis of suspicion,” he said. Bunty, who has several cases against him in Delhi, was spotted near Kotwali.

One, Altaf, and his friend identified him and informed a policeman. Subsequently, Bunty was taken to the police station.

“When quizzed, he gave strange statements saying that he could be from anywhere and could go wherever he wished,” said a policeman.

“Some silver spoons, an idol and other goods stolen from New Friends Colony in Delhi have been recovered from him,” he added. The man misguided the police by saying that his name was Napolean Jesus. First, he said that he had come from Hong Kong, while later he said that he hailed from Nepal.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Yogesh Choudhary said that he could not say whether the man held was the same Bunty. “Though there is a resemblance, we cannot be sure unless his identity is established. The police have been contacted and asked for his fingerprints,” Choudhary said.
