GNDU prof bags senior scientist award

AMRITSAR: Professor Ashwani Kumar Thukral, professor of botanical and environmen­tal sciences and director of research at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), has been awarded the prestigiou­s Prof Pran Nath Mehra Memorial Senior Scientist Award for his outstandin­g research in the field of environmen­tal biology.

The Prof Pran Nath Mehra Memorial Trust has been conferring this honour on senior researcher­s and eminent scholars of excellent scientific acumen in the memory of late Prof Mehra. This award, consist- ing of a citation and a memento, was presented to Thukral by Prof VK Jain, vice chancellor, Doon University, Uttarakhan­d, and Dr Rajneesh Arora, vice-chancellor, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, at a special session of the recently held Punjab Science Congress on the Guru Nanak Dev University campus.

Dr. Thukral did his doctorate from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, and post-doctorate from Moscow.

He has, over the years, developed exhaustive statistica­l tools in the field of life sciences focusing on remote sensing and environmen­tal toxicology.
