Cheema forms committees on teachers’ training

SAS NAGAR: Education minister Daljit Singh Cheema on Friday issued instructio­ns to prepare a detailed training programme for English teachers in 10 days, besides seeking a report on the result of Punjabi subject in the state-run schools till August 3.

In a meeting of the core group prepared to train English teachers, Cheema made it clear that there would be zero tolerance for poor results in any stream. He said the department would be focused on English and Punjabi and all English teachers would be trained at the district level by subject experts. In case of Punjabi, a detailed report would be prepared regarding the poor performanc­e of schools.

He ordered forming of committees comprising heads of district institutes of teachers’ training, English lecturers and DEOs concerned. A meeting would be held on July 6 in which officials concerned would be present. He said that after a detailed discussion, a blueprint would be prepared about thet raining, which would be announced in Chandigarh that day.

Taking a serious note of the poor performanc­e of students in their mother tongue, the minister said it was a matter of regret that 35,000 candidates had failed in the Class 10 exam. He also ordered setting up of committees to strengthen the study of Punjabi in schools. These committees would visit all schools in their districts and would present a report about the worst performers.
