RAHUL MAY VISIT RAJASTHAN TO SUPPORT CONG PROTESTS
NEW DELHI: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi may visit Rajasthan soon, thus giving an impetus to his party’s campaign against chief minister Vasundhara Raje.
A source close to Gandhi told HT, “Invitations from five state units are pending before him. Among these, Rajasthan is a priority state.”
The dates and schedule, however, are yet to be finalised. “It would be decided only after he returns from abroad,” said a source.
Gandhi, who has gone abroad with mother and Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, is expected to return by the end of this week. He is expected to seek reports from the state unit before he visits Rajasthan. “In all his state visits, he first consults the state’s Congress committees. He takes ground reports on two-three raging issues, and then tours the state,” said a senior party leader.
Rajasthan state Congress president Sachin Pilot has already launched an aggressive campaign against the CM. He held a press conference in the party headquarters in Delhi and apprised the senior leadership of the protests being held by Congress workers in Rajasthan.
Although Gandhi will take the final call regarding which state to visit first, the party leadership maintains that Rajasthan remains a priority area in the wake of the recent allegations against Vasundhara Raje. In the Lok Sabha polls, the party drew a blank in the country’s geographically largest state.
