TWO AKALI LEADERS, THREE DELHI COPS BOOKED IN LUDHIANA INCIDENT
LUDHIANA: A Youth Akali Dal (YAD) leader committed suicide by hanging himself from an exhaust fan in the bathroom of a hotel near the railway station here on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Santokh Singh Sukhana, 32, of Sukhana village near Raikot. He was facing a case of fraud and had been arrested by the Delhi police recently. Delhi cops had brought him here as part of the investigation and halted in the hotel.
Santokh went inside the bathroom and hanged himself. A sub inspector and two constables of the Delhi police found his body. A letter was found in his pocket, in which he mentioned that the suicide note was kept at his house. Later, the police recovered the note, in which Santokh blamed a couple of Akali leaders for his death. Subsequently, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against YAD leader Gurdeep Singh Gosha, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Pritam Singh Bharowal and five others at division number 1 police station.
Santokh, also a theatre artiste and a property agent, was recently booked by the Delhi police for allegedly committing fraud with Delhi resident Gurmeet Singh.
Station house officer, division number 1 police station, inspector Dharampal said Gurmeet had told the police that Santokh had taken ` 35 lakh from him for buying a plot in Mohali. However, Santokh allegedly neither bought the plot for him nor returned his money. The suicide note said seven persons, namely Gosha, Bharowal, Raju Thukral, Suresh Kumar, Dimple Kalra, Charanjit Singh and Ammy, had harassed him over a monetary issue. Following the suicide, the division number 1 police registered a case against sub-inspector Sanjay Tomar, constables Anil Kumar and Tara Chand of the Delhi police under sections 223 (public servant disobeying law with intent to cause injury to any person) and 166 (disobeying law) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
