THE DECEASED’S KIN HAD ACCUSED THE FAMILY OF 20-YEAR-OLD GIRL, WHO HAD ELOPED WITH THE BOY, OF ELIMINATING HIM

FARIDKOT: A day after the family of Kuldeep Singh (21) of Khara village held a protest on Saturday and blocked the traffic for about two hours, the Kotkapura police on Sunday booked seven persons, including family members of the girl who had run away from her house on the day of her marriage, on charges of killing the youth.

Kuldeep’s kin had accused the 20-year-old girl’s family of eliminating him.

A case has been registered against Tippa Singh, father of the girl; Resham Singh and Mohinder Singh, both panchayat members; Naginder Singh, alias Mona and Manga Singh, all residents of the same village besides two unidentified persons, under section 302 (murder) of the Indian penal Code (IPC).

The accused have been booked on the complaint of Gurcharan Singh, father of the deceased youth. “My son and the girl who were in a relationship ran away on June 21. They were found at Baler village near Bhiki Wind. The accused and others were bringing them back when Naginder Singh told me over the phone that they had met with an accident and the injured had been admitted to the hospital. I along with my brother Jeet Singh reached the Kotkapura civil hospital and asked about my son who was not there. Naginder and Resham told us that my son was with them and he would reach in the morning. But in the morning, I learnt that my son was hanging from a tree in the village,” said the boy’s father. On the other hand, the girl’s family claimed that the deceased had left the hospital along with his father and others.

After the boy was found hanging from tree, the police had proceeded under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) after conducting post-mortem of the body.

“The police are thoroughly investigating the case and arrests would be made soon,” said Kotkapura Sadar station house officer (SHO) Amarjeet Singh.
