ROHTAK: More than 24 hours after the Jind police booked Bhiwani-Mahendragarh MP Dharambir’s brother Rajbir on the charges of abduction of his (Rajbir’s) grand-daughter (his late daughter Priyanka’s daughter), the police are yet to arrest the accused.

The police raided Rajbir’s residence in Bhiwani, but failed to get any clue on Rajbir and his son, Balwinder, another accused.

The department has now pasted a notice at their residence, asking them to join the investigation.

However, HT spoke to Rajbir over phone and he denied the charges of kidnapping. “I am not guilty in any way. I and my wife wanted to meet our 5-year-old granddaughter (Samridhi) as I had not met her for the past sev- eral months. We were shocked to know that my son-in-law had kept the child at his relative’s house in Jind and we also learn that the son-in-law wants to marry again. As concerned grandparents, we only kept the child with us as her health too looked weak.”

He admitted to having received the police notice and said, “I will soon appear before the Jind SP and present him with the facts of the case.”

BATTLE OVER CHILD LED TO CASE

Source said Rajbir’s daughter Priyanka has married Sonepat village resident Abhimanyu in July 2009 and they had a daughter, Samridhi, who is now five-year-old. In 2014, Priyanka was killed in a mishap and she had 22 acres in Sonepat in her name. After Priyanka’s death, the sonin-law’s relationship with Priyanka’s parents deteriorat- ed and he shifted with Samridhi to an uncle’s residence.

On Saturday, Rajbir reached the uncle’s residence in Jind and wanted to take Samridhi with him. This was not agreeable to Abhimanyu and his uncle. A scuffle ensued before Ranbir could finally take his granddaughter with him.

Finally, on a complaint from his son-in-law, Rajbir and his son, who accompanied the family, were booked on the charges of abduction.

ACCUSED RAJBIR HAS BEEN BOOKED FOR ALLEGEDLY ABDUCTING HIS FIVE-YEAR-OLD GRAND-DAUGHTER SAMRIDHI FROM HER UNCLE’S RESIDENCE IN JIND ON SATURDAY
