Now, ex-Gurdaspur SP Salwinder booked for sexual assault

GURDASPUR: Salwinder Singh, the former Gurdaspur superinten­dent of police (SP) who was allegedly kidnapped by terrorists a day before the Pathankot airbase attack in January this year, has been booked for sexual assault on a joint complaint of seven woman constables. He is already facing a rape case.

A case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Salwinder at the Gurdaspur city police station on Thursday evening after receiving an inquiry report, said station house officer (SHO) Rajbir Singh.

The probe was conducted by additional director general of police (ADGP, investigat­ion) Gurpreet Deo following the complaint of the seven woman cops who worked under Salwinder in Gurdaspur. Initially, the women had filed an anonymous complaint, but later appeared before Deo during the inquiry.

Salwinder is already facing a rape case filed by a Gurdaspur resident in August. He allegedly asked the complainan­t’s wife to pay `50,000 and also

forced her to develop physical relationsh­ip with him to get her husband exonerated in a case back in 2014. An inquiry found him guilty.

Salwinder faces arrest in both cases, as the high court has already rejected his interim bail plea in the previous case. Last posted as an assistant commandant with the Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar, Salwinder was later suspended.
